The Urban Orchard Project is creating lush cities across the United Kingdom swathed in fruit and nut trees. We work in partnership with communities to plant, manage, restore and harvest orchards in urban areas to help us all to rediscover the pleasure of eating home-grown fruit.
New team member, and acting Chief Executive, Neil Kingsnorth found some apple trees still heaving with fruit in a car park in Warrington last month, and he's got some questions he needs your help with.
Most apples, pears and plums are, in the main, not self-fertile. This means that in order to produce fruit, these trees need to be planted close to one or more suitable varieties in flower at the same time.
